From the beginning there was a demand from customers and it may seem to be an easy mission for manufacturers: create a binding which fixes the boots in the front and back and provides fast in or out stepping without any struggles with pants, like ski bindings (or cycling patent pedlas). There have been attempts for that from the birth of snowboarding.
But this was a terribly heavy task because of two reasons. First of all the position of the binding on a board doesn't allow to step in the dock like into ski binding or cycling pedals. The fastening should be at the toe or the side of the boot. The fastening of the sole doesn't working because a fixing point here lifts the shoe relative to the board and it would affect the controllability in a wrong way.
So the side of the shoe might be the solution. And here comes the next problem. The most important thing that the binding must be safe! It is likely to be a serious accident if one of our legs get off the board, as if detaching one of the skies or if we pull out our leg from the pedal on the bike.
So in fact this was not an easy task for the developers. It was necessary to create an anchorage point on a relatively small surface that would allow both safe and at the same time stable and comfortable fastening. And don't forget the fixing of the heels either as well as the entry process must be quick, safe and comfortable.
Burton – we can say – solved the problem, and it's not accidental, the system was testing by professionals in the last years.
