What’s new in version 2.53.8?
The essence of the update lies in fine-tuning the timing of the Cassette Mapping algorithm — especially when shifting three or more gears in succession. The new version shortens the transition times between derailleur movement and the chain’s repositioning.
Additionally, according to SRAM, the firmware now better adapts to the cassette’s rotational speed while riding, eliminating unnecessary delays.
As a result, multi-gear shifts (MultiShift) are now faster and smoother, while maintaining stability and consistent performance during shifting.
Which systems is it available for?
The firmware is designed for Eagle Transmission (T-Type) drivetrain systems, including the XX SL, XX, XO, and GX AXS models. For those who haven’t updated since September, now is a great time to do so — according to SRAM, this is one of the most significant software improvements since the introduction of AXS.
How can you update it?
Open the SRAM AXS mobile app, connect your devices via Bluetooth, and follow the update instructions. The process only takes a few minutes — and afterward, you can enjoy faster and more precise shifting.
If you have an Eagle AXS Transmission system, it’s definitely worth updating — if for no other reason than to see whether you can feel the quicker response yourself.
And speaking of faster shifting: it seems SRAM is working on hardware that could one day double shifting speed, thanks to the use of a half-link chain. You can read more about this in Velo’s article.
